There are five species of Pacific Salmon, and all of them migrate
annually to the Talachulitna River.
The first to
arrive in mid-June is the mighty Chinook
(or King Salmon) Salmon.
This big fish is generally taken on large spinning tackle. However, many fly fishers have experienced
the ultimate in angling adventure when a King has taken their weighted streamer
fly.
The last week of July through the third week of August, the Tal is home
again to the remaining four species of salmon:
Sockeye Salmon begin arriving the last week of July. At their peak the first week of August, you
can stand knee-deep in the river surrounded by these swift, brilliant fighters!
Chum Salmon are large, powerful fish that provide a thrilling
contest.
You will marvel at the sheer number of
Pink Salmon that inhabit the Tal.
The first three weeks of August will find an abundance of Silver Salmon entering the Tal. They are fresh, strong, and of perfect
eating quality. Silvers will strike
flies and lures with equal zest and are truly a sport fisher's dream come
true! These salmon are well known for
their acrobatic leaps and sizzling runs!

Beginning the last week of July and continuing through the season, anglers will find
excellent fishing opportunities for Rainbow Trout and Arctic
Grayling.
Late summer and early fall find the larger (22 to 26
inch) Rainbow Trout -- fat and strong from their summer feeding aggressively
storing up for the long winter ahead.
Talachulitna River rainbows are wild, native trout famed for their
brilliant crimson markings and distinctive black spots. Their remarkable speed and endurance earns
them great respect from anglers who return yearly to release these beautiful
fish for another day.
Talaview's experienced and energetic
guides are
proficient in all forms of the angling arts.
They are on the stream each day and are experts at river
reading, fish locating, and casting techniques.
Expert guides are anxious to pass along their knowledge
and skills. Novice anglers can expect
to receive lots of instruction and patience at Talaview while experienced
anglers will appreciate friendly, professional assistance.

walking to excellent fishing spots located within sight of the lodge. Diehard anglers are pleased to find they can
enjoy a full schedule of fishing daily at Talaview Lodge.
Talaview caters to the serious-minded sport angler
and conservationist. Arctic Grayling
and Dolly Varden fall under the lodge's
catch-and-release policy.
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has further
created exceptional fishing on the Talachulitna River by requiring the release
of all Rainbow Trout since 1976. To
insure minimal damage to this beautiful fish, state regulations prohibit the
use of any lure other than on a single, unbaited hook.
